Udzungwa Mountain National Park( Tanzania National Parks)
Udzungwa mountain national park has got a total area of 2000km. it contains the greatest altitudinal range of forests in East Africa, the eastern escarpments is the only place in East Africa with unbroken forest cover from the lowland forest communities at below 250m above sea level. This park has one of the highest numbers of species endemism worldwide.
It’s located 65km south of Mikumi National park. This park is also a paradise for the hikers and back packers alike. There are numerous breath taking day hikes that we can be organize along with multiple day excursions into the dense rain forests or onto the high plateau. Another beautiful trek is up to the Sanje River waterfall, which plunges for 170 meters through the forest to the valley below.
This National park also supports a diverse, large mammal community. It includes Elephants, Buffalos, Lions, Leopards, African wild dog, Waterbuck and the sable. In this park,there are six species of primates. Two are endemic, the Iringa Red Colobus monkey, and the Sanje crested Mangabey, which was discovered in 1979. There is also a rich small Bovid community including good numbers of Red, blue and Abbots Duikers and the Bushbuck. It has also got the richest forest bird habitat in Tanzania.
