Sipi falls: Uganda’s most scenic water falls on the foot hills of Mt. Elgon.

Sipi Falls is one of Uganda’s most popular destinations with the most stunning water falls located in the Eastern part of Uganda particularly in Kapchorwa district North East of Sironko and Mbale districts. The water falls lying on the edge of Mountain Elgon National park a few kilo meters away from the Kenyan boarder are believed to have three, the main fall and two others on the upper side that are relatively smaller than the main waterfall.

The Uganda Sipi Falls area acts as an initial point that favors hikes to Mt. Elgon for adventurists on hiking safaris in Uganda. With the most popular trails starting in Budadiri following to Sasa trail to the summit and then descends down the Sipi trail back into the Uganda Sipi Falls. Hiking around the water falls enables one to have a wonderful glance of the Karamoja plains, Lake Kyoga, and the slopes of Mt. Elgon. Through a local private operator, one can organize their trips to explore the magnificent falls in the heart of eastern Uganda.

Sipi originated from a popular indigenous plant species called “Sep” i.e. an indigenous medicinal plant found at the bank of River Sipi. The plant treats diseases like Measles, Fever etc. The area around the Sipi River and Sipi Falls is known for the growth of Bagishu’s Arabica coffee. Arabica coffee only grows at an altitude of between 1,600 and 1,900 metres. Coffee tours are organized through guides with knowledge of coffee farming, processing and roasting. Proceeds from this project go towards community initiatives.

There is a variety of accommodation around the Uganda Sipi falls ranging from budget to luxury where you can relax and enjoy the cool breeze from the temperate climate conditions away from the noise of town.
