Rubondo Island National park
Rubondo Island game reserve in the southwest of Lake Victoria. It is Tanzania’s tenth National park and the only one in Lake Victoria. This Island also provides an unforgettable experience for the visitors; including the main Island and the 11 smaller Inlets, combining the breathtaking beauty of a forest refuge with the relaxing tranquility of sandy lake shore beaches.
This Rubondo Island National park is some 28 km in length along the north south axis and between 3 and 10 km wide. Lake Victoria also covers 68 sq. km and it the largest Lake in Africa and the second largest in the world.
The Rubondo Island Park also boosts a unique diversity of flora and fauna. You will be able to view the Sitatungas and have a chance of observing small gangs of chimpanzees. The other mammals frequenting this place are the hippos, otters, bush bucks and the Vervet monkeys. You will also view the genet, colobus,Marsh Mongoose and Suni Antelope.
Ruhondo Island is also a paradise for bird lovers, with nearly 430 species on the Island. Some of these include; Herons, stork egrets, cormorants, Kingfishers, flycatchers, bee eaters, hornbills and the eagles. There is a wide variety of invertebrates and the diversity of plant species. The fabulous butterflies also create a Kalei do scope of color in the forest together with the orchids, fireball lilies and the red coral tress.
