Rwanda is fast emerging as a major tourist destination due to the increasing safari tours which have been operated within the country. However, a lot of attention has been on developing few tourism products such as wildlife tourism. Also the rich and the diverse indigenous culture has hardly been seen as a potential tourism resource for Rwanda. Rwanda has a rich cultural history which has existed far back in the ancient times; this includes the visible diversity of crafts, dance and the strong traditions which have attracted many tourists to the country.
Cultural heritage sites throughout the country and this offers a unique opportunity in traditional context.
This can be viewed in various museums, memorial and the historical sites across the country. Culture is also the main factor which influences safari visitors to travel to different parts of the world. This recognition of culture is also creating and reinforcing people’s identity which has played a significant role in the growing interest in adverse aspects of heritage safari tourism. The natural and cultural heritage, diversities and living cultures are major tourism attractions.
Heritage is also a broad concept that includes the natural as well as the cultural environment; this also includes the landscapes, sites and built environments as well as; biodiversity, collections, cultural practices, knowledge and the experiences. All this attracts many tourists to come for safaris to the country. Cultural heritage can also capture the economic features of the heritage. It also harnesses these features for conservation by generating funding, educating the community and also influencing policy.
Rwanda also has many other tourist attractions and these include; the mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, birds, culture, city tours, golden monkey tracking, mountains and many more. All these have attracted many tourists to come for safaris to Rwanda.
