Mt. Kenya National Park

Visit kenya Mt Kenya National park is located to the east of the Great Rift Valley, and it’s about 175km north East of Nairobi. It lies in central and Eastern provinces of Kenya. At about 5199m the mountain is the second highest peak in Africa. Mt Kenya is an important water tower in the country. Mt. Kenya National Park provides water for about 50% of the country’s population and produces 70 % of Kenya’s hydroelectric power. It was also inscribed as a World Heritage Site. It’s also described as the most impressive landscapes in Eastern Africa with its rugged glacier clad summits, Afro-alpine moorlands and diverse forests that illustrate outstanding ecological processes.

One can reach Mt. Kenya National Park on Nanyuki Isiola via Sirimo Track near Naro Moru. Mt. Kenya National Park is also reachable via Chogoria on the Embu-Meru road, which is about 150km north of Nairobi. Then the climate, flora, fauna on Mt Kenya varies with Altitude. The major attractions also include; pristine wilderness, lakes, tarns, glaciers and the peaks of great beauty, geological variety, minerals. In addition to the above, they include; forests, rare endangered species of animals, game drives, Unique montane and alpine vegetation with 11 species of endemic plants.

The wildlife species also include; the elephants, tree hyrax, suni, black fronted duiker, white tailed mongoose, bushbucks, water buck and the Elands. The animals rarely seen also include; leopards, bongo, giant forest Hog and the Rhinos. There over 130 bird species on record. The activities carried out in the park also include; Game viewing, camping, mountain climbing, cave exploration.
